In our city we considered biogas, a product generated through biodigestion. In this natural process biological products, such as manure, food scraps and crop residue are digested anaerobically. The methane which is emitted from this can be captured and compressed and then be used as fuel, a natural fertiliser is produced as well. The process is fairly circular.

It is important to note that due to the always changing matter that goes into the digestion process impurities can be present. This process also ideally takes place at 37°C and in northern countries the process might require a little heat energy.
Although plastic is an incredibly helpful material, we want a reduction of single use plastic. Certain products that need to be wrapped in plastic for hygenic reasons, can be packaged using PLA or PHA. These are both plastics based on organic material and can be synthesised from corn or sugarcane. They are also compostable, yet only on an industrial level and would therefore require recycling from the residents. It may be possible that due to the organic basis these plastics could also be used in the process of producing biogas.
